What is Surrogacy?
Gestational Surrogacy (IVF / In Vitro Fertilization)
In-Vitro Fertilization or (IVF) as it is commonly referred to and known by many as a “test tube baby”, has helped numerous couples that are infertile, conceive and bear children. Today this process occurs in a petrie dish in a laboratory and not in a test tube. The In Vitro Fertilization procedure is a four-step process. Step one is where the Intended Mother or Egg Donor will take medication to stimulate their ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Step two is retrieving the eggs from the ovaries. Once the eggs have been retrieved, step three is the fertilization of the eggs and creation of the embryos in the IVF Laboratory. Once the eggs are appropriately fertilized, the fourth and final step occurs. This step involves placing the embryos into the uterus of the Surrogate for implantation, which is commonly referred to as the Embryo Transfer. The Embryo Transfer may take place on day 3 or day 5 following the retrieval depending on the grade and quality of the embryos. If the embryos are transferred into the uterus of the Surrogate on day 5 they are no longer considered embryos (which are anywhere from 4-8 cell) but Blastocysts (multi-celled embryos which the cells have divided so much they can no longer be counted). Following the Embryo Transfer, Surrogates should be prepared to be on strict bed rest for 48-72 hours. During this time the Embryos or Blastocysts have the best chance of implanting into the uterine wall, thus creating a pregnancy! Surrogacy
Surrogate Sisters™ Mentoring Program
Surrogate Alternatives offers our Surrogate Mothers an added level of support by assigning them a mentor once they are matched. Women who have been Surrogates through our agency have volunteered their time to be available to our new Surrogates to accompany them to doctor visits, answer their questions about medication, side effects, etc. and just be a friend to them throughout their journey. Surrogacy is unique and it helps to have someone who has been through the process before that can share their experience with you.
Many people do not understand or may question why anyone would want to be a Surrogate in the first place.
Each Surrogate Mother has a different experience. Some will carry twins, many are helping Intended Parents who live around the world, a few want little involvement during the process, other’s want a lot. The additional support our Surrogate Sisters™ program provides, will only enrich your experience and hopefully, make your journey that much better!!
Surrogate Alternatives sets the “Gold Standard” in surrogate support. Over the past several years, SAI has given back to our Surrogates and their families by contributing over $200,000 in prizes, events, trips, retreat gifts and cash give-aways. As an agency, owned and operated by women who have been Surrogates, we are personally invested in each and every journey and are 100% committed to our Surrogate’s needs.
